The hot weather continued but players used the shade where possible, some more than others, and it was only later in the game that most started to shorten stride.
Thankfully, the field was 16 fewer than the massive 97 in 2016. This year 81(67 men and 14 ladies) turned up for the game. Had one group remembered to advise that they weren’t coming, play would have got underway at 8.15am. Please remember to remove your name from the Timesheet or to advise someone if your circumstances change and you won’t be playing so that adjustments can be made to Tee spots.
The Course now needs good rain as the areas of lush couch grass around the sprinkler heads showed, but preferred lie was not always necessary on most Fairways. The new back Tee on hole 13 came into play and now the second shot into the Green is even more difficult. The close attention to the preparation of the Greens has resulted in very good putting surfaces.
The early Lowood volunteers had the bunloaf and urn ready for the first arrivals and the salad meal after the game was eagerly sought by those staying for presentations.
Back to five scores in the 40’s today with Rod Turnbull’s 43 the best of the day. In Division 2, Ivan Henry had to survive a four way countbach to win with 38 points. Both he and Rod then went on to win Pinshots as well. Lyn Baker returned to form with a one shot win in the Ladies event.
Photos.
1. It looks so calm now but how many mis-hit shots caused waves here today.
2. You can’t see the ball because it’s in the hole.
3. They say golf is a relaxing game, and how much more relaxed can you get. It must have worked for Rod today at least.
4. There were a few more like this today weren’t there Bob!
5. Another way to relax at golf.
The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 20th March. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
