Event 23 – Esk

Once again, the weather forecast of possible showers didn’t prevent all those who were on the Timesheet from turning up and on time too. It turned out to be a very fine day which included enough wind to have many second guessing a few shots.

The numbers today were 63 (52 men and 11 ladies) down 6 from the earlier game this year. Probably the availability of Buggies had a lot to do with it.

The recent use of the Course for Camp drafting caused no significant disadvantage to players. It was the lack of water which had the grass very dry but still with a pretty good coverage. The Greens, were in a stage of recovery from maintenance and had areas where soft shots easily found a way to alter course before the hole was reached. Like most other Courses, it is hoped that the promised rain is significant and not too long in coming.

The scones and buns made available before the game were very much appreciated along with the very balanced and palatable lunch which included a most enjoyable rice pudding.

I suppose the outsiders were necessary to swell the numbers, but the Hattonvale and Esk players certainly made the most of their opportunities on the Course today. Ken Marschke and Jim and Cath Guest all had wins, and Robert Hedges and Heinz Knubel were Runners-up. Bernie Bugden broke the clean sweep for a well-earned Runner-up trophy. The shot of the day was undoubtedly Bob Carter’s Approach to 22cms from the Pin on the 7th hole.

Photos.

1. We know it takes two to Tango, but here it seems it takes two to tangle.

2. No tangle need in this tape. It was a simple measure using the minimum of tape.

3. Shiela was relieved that she was able to get a drop away from the fixed bin.

4. The Greens certainly stood out against the brown of the rest of the Course.

5. Would you believe a smile was asked for this shot.

The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Wolston Park on Monday 17th September. The Timesheet is now available.
