Event 13 – Boonah

A colder start to a fine Winter’s Day together with a cooler breeze than we’ve had so far this year. This kept the temperature to the mid-twenties. Adrian Scott didn’t complete the Round, but with a quick response from Ivan Henry and the Boonah staff he got very prompt medical assistance. He’ll be back at golf after taking things easy for a couple of weeks.

The field was 75 (61 men and 14 ladies), after initially having 88 on the timesheet. Hopefully those who withdrew for health reasons return soon. We appreciated the assistance that Joey gave to get sufficient buggies for all who wanted one. Play was able to get under way 10 minutes early.

Even with the cooler weather coming on, the Course was in very good condition and there was no need for a Preferred Lie. The Greens had suffered a setback with some bare areas, and they were the slowest ever experienced here as the grass was not cut as short as usual. That said, the placement of the Pins gave pretty good approaches to the hole.

The Tea and Coffee was very welcome with the IDVGA supplying the drinking cups. There was a good range of options for lunch, and it was served fairly promptly.

Gana Arumugam’s 43 was the score of the day to give him a 5 shot win while Peter Smollen got there by a single shot. Some of the Ladies used an incorrect Slope rating read from an incorrect ‘Look-Up’ sheet, but after some double checking, Marysha Boonstoppel got the nod.

Photos.

1. There were a few testing putts like this on some Greens today.

2. Rod has been practicing his putting recently as his Driving has been carrying him lately.

3. Gary put a lot of thought into this one and put it down the middle.

4. Another one over and they were happy about that.

5. I’ve been wanting a shot of these blokes for some time and now I have it. Thanks fellas.

The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun Start at Gatton on Monday 11th June.
