Event 9 – Rosewood

Today we probably had the best playing conditions so far this year. Even so, four players had nothing to celebrate after their buggies ran into mechanical problems along the way. One went home, a second, and he’s 89, walked more than 9 holes to finish the game, while the other two in the second buggy ended up carrying their bags and clubs to the finish the game.

The field was 113 (92 Men and 21 Ladies), a great result, and a much larger number than early games would have predicted. Players are getting into the habit of arriving on time and we are all enjoying how this lets us hit-off earlier. More new members today and we are just two short of achieving the 200 member mark. Maybe we’ll make it at the next game.

The Course was showing the benefit of more attention to its preparation and many players were surprised by the improvement since January. The Greens still have a way to go but still very playable. Hopefully the work being done will result in more success by our next game in August.

Mary got wind of the likelihood of a bigger field today and made sure there was sufficient home cooking and of such a big variety also. Thanks Mary. The lunch choices brought many positive responses.

Graham Wilson and Larry Hayne had the joy of scoring the only two forty points today and won the trophies. Shirley Morgan, fresh back from Pennant duty, got her first trophy of the year in the Ladies section. Shirley and Graham topped their wins off with a Pin Shot each. Unfortunately, there were nine disqualifications as well and Captain Bob will be letting the players concerned know why this action had to be taken.

Photos.

1. There weren’t too many hold-ups today, and this group showed patience while their time to continue presented itself.

2. We would all like to know whether Des got his putt after taking such care on this flat Green.

3. With this careful setting up, it just had to be a good shot.

4. Their scores weren’t all that hot, but they got stuck into their meals while they were.

5. Peter and Vic invited Larry over to tell two of our new players how he won Division 1 today. 6. It’s unusual to include six photos but this one on the side of a block of note paper tells the story of some our putts today.

The next game is at Gailes on Monday 30th April. It is a 9.00am Shotgun start to allow the visitors from Woodford to have a cuppa before they hit-off. Woodford has invited Ipswich District Vets to join them in their Thursday Vets competition on 10th May which is an 8.30am shotgun start. If you are interested, write your name on the Nomination Sheet at the Gailes game or phone the Pro Shop on 5496 1522 to get your name on the Timesheet and to order a Buggy if you need one. The President plans to go and, if you have no other committments that day, he encourages you to do likewise if you would like a game on a great Country course, since we don’t have a game on the Monday. The following game is at Laidley on Monday 14th May. It will be back to an 8.30am Shotgun start.
