No rain in sight today but the high humidity that made playing a little uncomfortable was a result of the recent falls which had the Course in very good condition. Bernie Moore put in a great effort to have it this way and we thank him and the other volunteers who do such a great job before our Vets days.
An encouraging roll-up today, with 69 (60 men and 9 ladies) easily beating the 49 last year, and better still, the benefit to the club with such a small number of players, was evident in the joy the members had in that number turning up.
There was good grass coverage, but it is still not a Course where mistakes can easily be made up for later in the Round, and in many places care must be taken in managing placement of the ball for the following shot. The Greens, maintained and prepared by the same volunteers, were well covered but not mown too short to ensure they do not suffer in very hot weather, but the roll to the hole was marginally slower but mostly very even.
The scones for refreshments were at the usual Esk standard. Thanks to the ladies responsible for them and for the lovely balanced lunch, including sweets.
Local lad, Gerry De Roo, new to the Vets this year, had the only 40 points today, obtained no doubt from local knowledge, and the enjoyment of the company of his group. John Hafner had his second win and, with the other ladies having an off day, Janet Hines had her first win with us. The celebration of the day came when Risto Ala-Outinen let out a yell of happiness when his Pin Shot was announced.

1. Was Kev pointing to the Local Rules or making a gesture relevant to the Easter period?
2. How could that perfect club have played that shot John?
3. They’ve driven off the 17th and seem happy enough about their next shots.
4. You’re supposed to keep your head down, but how can you when you have to look up to see where the ball has decided to go.
5.Whatever they told you about the Course mustn’t have been taken on board today, John.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Warwick on Monday 9th April. The Timesheet is now available.
