Cloudy and wet was the Bureau prediction for the day. It certainly was mostly cloudy, but late in the Round the sun emerged and then shone for periods to make for a most enjoyable day which did not break the dreaded 30 degrees barrier.
Last year the field was 81 after a whopping 97 in 2016 but this year we had to settle for a lowly 64 (54 men and 10 ladies). The reason – there were 30 ‘pullouts’ after an early morning shower, and a worry that the day would be wet. Thankfully the only rain came later that night which wiped out Tuesday golf around the District. However, three players turned up to renew their membership and to have a game.
The Course has certainly responded to the heavy rainfalls and there was not a lot of run on the Fairways. Preferred Lies were able to be taken through the Course because the grass has still to gain full coverage. The Greens were prepared for the day but still had a good thickness of grass which resulted in top rolls to the Pin.
Even with fewer numbers, the fresh bun loaf soon disappeared and the catering staff still offered the two lunch choices. It was a special day because the players helped to celebrate Gertie Daniel reaching 90 years of age last December. She became the first lady member to do so following our two former male members who also reached that age whilst current members, Gertie’s husband Billl and Digger Murphy. We hope to add another two to the list in June and September when Foundation Member, Ron Pflugrath and then Allan Alloway turns 90.
The ladies found the conditions difficult with Angie having yet another win, this time with 33 points. The men’s ball rundown went down to 36 with Ken Marschke also getting his second win this year with 40 points, one ahead of Ivan Henry on 39 points, who won Division 2.

1. Congratulations Gertie and we hope the Ladies enjoyed the left-over cake on Thursday.
2. Well-done Charles and just look at the condition of the Grass after the rain.
3. C’mon Val, it wasn’t such a bad shot and you still got a ball in the rundown.
4. Not quite down the centre but Gertie got it right on the next shot.
5. Not a good enough shot from here, and it may have been the one that cost Des a win today.
The next game is at Ipswich City on Monday 19th March. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun start. The Timesheet is available at Rosewood Golf Club.
