Event 22 – Ipswich City – 2019 Championships Round 2

2nd Round of the 2019 Championships
Sponsored by Queenslanders Credit Union

What a change in weather conditions. Today could almost have been the start of Spring even though, to a player, there would hve been jubilation had there been a good downpour after 1.30pm. It was much appreciated that Credit Union rep, Russell Phillips, was again present in the dual role of player and presenter of trophies.

The drop off in numbers was only 14 this year, and this most probably was because of the introduction of the daily Stableford events. In the end, on Day 2, 61men and 15 ladies played Stroke Rounds and 17 men and 5 ladies played Stableford. This will give a good base on which to look at the makeup of the 2020 Championships. The pre-printed cards saved a lot of checking for accuracy, both before and after the game. Thanks Bob.

The Course was in the same dry condition as last week but the Greens were still in perfect condition.

Ann Hughes again turned in a top Round to take the Ladies trophy by 7 shots. Pam Lane and Pauline Rogers challenged for the Gross but Jan Prosser just held on to win by 2. In the Men’s event, dark horse, Bill Naoum, came from behind to win the Men’s trophy by 2 shots. The Gross was a real dogfight with Rod Turnbull coming back to equal Chris Petrohilos’s score and then gain the win on Countback. All scores are recorded on the Association website idvga.com.au. Congratulations to all winners.
