A perfect day for Woodford’s annual visit and their early arrival allowed an earlier hit-off than the advertised 9.00am.
The field this year was 101 (80 men and 21 ladies) of whom 11 were from Woodford, after 11 players pulled out on the day. It was certainly a more relaxed round than the one with 152 players at Gailes last year. It is hoped that a return visit from some of our players may be possible sometime in September.
The Course is certainly suffering from the adverse weather conditions, and we felt a bit guilty rejoicing in a fine day when a good downpour would have been so beneficial to the current situation. On the other hand, the Greens, though with a longer cut than would otherwise been the case, rewarded a careful read of the correct line, and are a credit to those managing them at the present time.
Mary excelled in setting out the great variety of welcoming snacks again and it’s hard to make a choice now, and so many look forward to the fresh pikelets on Rosewood Vets days. There was a big response to lunch today which caused longer queueing than usual but was well worth waiting for.
Five scores in the 40’s today with local lad Vic Gibbons topping them with 43. The ladies event was a local countback effort with Di Stanley having the better back nine. Graeme O’Connor spoilt the Rosewood cleansweep with his two point win. First time visitor from Woodford, David Corrie, had the best score of the Woodford players.

1. The volunteers are doing a great job in maintaining the Course.
2. Geoff wants to get on with the game, but John checks the train noise that almost cost him this putt.
3. Another one straight down the middle for Allan.
4. It’s pretty obvious that Cedric is wondering if there is a better way to spend an 85th birthday.
5. A eucalypt would have been preferable, but he/she just wanted to get to a higher vantage point.
6. Graham’s next shot was from almost the same spot after this one rebounded off two trees.
The next game will be at Gailes on Monday 5th August. It will be an 8.30am Shotgun Start. The Timesheet is now available at Rosewood.
