Event 7 – Esk

The hot weather continued, and the temperature reached 36 today, and this was made worse by the fact that there was little breeze. The roadworks didn’t cause much of a delay and play got under way right on time.

Players numbered 66 (60 men and 9 ladies) today, the same number of men as last year, but 3 fewer ladies. Of these, one was a new member. Bernie Moore did a great job getting as many buggies as he did and the field moved pretty steadily. A couple of Timesheet adjustments fell into place with the withdrawals equalling the extra players.

The rain had started to make an impression on the grass growth, and it will only improve in the coming weeks. The Greens were in very good condition, but there were a couple of Pin placements which had everyone thinking. They will only improve in the coming weeks also.

Pumpkin and plain scones were offered as a choice and were a treat with the home-made jam. Lunch was a top salad finished off with a hard choice of pudding.

How did the local lads and lasses go today. Well, they won 5 of the six Stableford Trophies. Only Cedric Payne spoilt the party and that was on countback anyway. Their scores surprised most of them after their efforts during their previous games. The Pin Shots were very keenly contested and there was never a chance of any ‘Skinners’ today.

Photos.

1. Bernie won the contest with Lyle and Gary took the Pin Shot.

2. Ken got this one away well, but others did not all finish so well.

3. The result never matched the effort expended on this one Keith.

4. Another good one for Graham today, but he still finished 5 shots short.

5. Cedric is just thinking about one putt that he wished he hadn’t missed today.

The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Rosewood on Monday 1st April. The Timesheet is now available.
