A very cold start to the day, particularly after emerging from the heated clubhouse, with the chilling breeze around for the earlier part of play and then changing to very pleasant by the last six or seven holes.
The field was 62 (48 men and 14 ladies), and with a prompt arrival by all, play got away right on time. With that number, the field moved reasonably well throughout the Day and most finished in a little over 4 hours. There was one membership renewal.
The Course was in pristine condition as evidenced by the first photo, and the Fairways were well defined with very clear mowing strips at the edge. The Greens weren’t in their usual dry slick condition, but even so, they were still slick and very true.
Tea or Coffee was available in the lunch area before play and there was a good player response to the menu variety of sandwiches, beef or pork and gravy in bread rolls or the very tasty dish of shepherd pie and vegetables. Sweets were available also for those who still had room for them.
There was no doubt about the quality of the best score of the day. Allan Swift, who missed last week’s game at Woodford due to late wedding anniversary celebrations, came back rejuvenated with a score of 43 points, 9 better than the next best one. Angie Arumugam and Doug Gillett had narrow wins in the other two divisions. Graham Hauser not only took out a Pin shot, he had an Eagle on Hole 16 as well. Congratulations Graham.
Photos:
1. Bruce just missed this putt as you can see, as he was using his shadow as a line, but he took too long, and the sun had moved.
2. Even the wagtail was interested in Rainbow’s putt, which he sank.
3. Like a lot of other players today, Denis thought he had enough club to get to the Green on the 4th, but he just got over the water.
4. Miguel and Cedric are taken with Joy’s story, but Graham must have heard it before.
5. The Shotgun start brought quite a few to the bar at the same time today giving the earlier arrivals a time to chat. Graham Hauser far left, is probably reliving that Eagle shot on the seventh hole. It won’t be the last time Janine hears it.
The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun Start at Lowood on Monday 4th July. The Timesheet is located at Rosewood Golf Club.
