Event 8 – Laidley

This Report commences with mention of the passing of Sarah Erith. Sarah was a strong supporter of the concept of games at the various District Courses and on many occasions, the travel to adjacent Courses to add variety to the Programme for members. She played in most games each year and was a respected member any group in which she played. Her quiet and respectful approach to our games will be sorely missed.

There was early concern that the dark clouds would keep players away, but even with some early showers, all on the sheet arrived early and in fact play got under way 15 minutes ahead of the advertised time, and the whole game was played in fine weather.

The field was only 48 (40 Men and 8 Ladies), a number which has surprised everyone, especially since reports on the fine condition of the Course had been posted prior to the game. In that number were 3 playing their first games this year and a fourth who was a visiting Vet from South Australia.

All players spoken to could only confirm the general opinion that the Course was in excellent condition and was a pleasure to play. The Greens were also at their usual high standard, and it is hoped that more members will be able to get their name on the Timesheet for the next game.

With the smaller numbers, access to the Urn was a breeze and those who partook of the lunch menu praised it as well.

Four male members had 38 points or more confirming the top state of the Course and they were all Trophy winners. Mary Smith and Pam Lane, in the same group, won the Ladies trophies with 35 and 34. Pam also got a Pin shot as did other group member Glenn Kermond and he also got a ball in the Rundown.

Photos.  Saving up for next game.

The next game is at Rosewood on Monday 16th of May due to the spate of Monday Public holidays in this period this year and the change in date of the QVGU Championships back to 9th May. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start.
