A partly cloudy day when the sunny periods were a reasonable temperature, and very comfortable conditions resulted for the whole game. Players all arrived in good time, and this allowed them to move to their respective Tees by twenty past eight.
The Field was nowhere near last year’s number of 92. It ended up 69 (56 men and 13 ladies). It shouldn’t have been a reaction to two Stroke Rounds of the Championships. It was more probably a result of the continuing high cost of fuel for many of those who had a good distance to travel, and who don’t like travelling the roads in heavier traffic.
There was no Preferred lie on any of the Fairways and most players had no trouble with the longer shots but found some difficulty with shots with the more lofted clubs nearer the Greens. The Greens gave fairly even rolls but there were concerns where they contained multiple types of grass. Stones in Bunkers were able to be removed if they interfered with the retrieval shot.
The welcoming Tea, Coffee and biscuits were set up in the usual location, and the hotbox lunches were again good value.
Mary Smith had 37 points, the best score of the day. She must have been hyped up after her Hole in One at Ipswich last week. Garry Rodgers won Division 2 with 36 points. Toogoolawah is well and truly back on the District radar with Bob Marshall’s 36 point win in Division 1, even though it was on a three-way countback, and Craig Granzien adding the Hole 4 2nd Shot trophy.
