Event 20 Laidley

The Bureau warned of heavy fog, and as soon as we turned off the highway it was slow travelling through very heavy fog until the Course was reached. Thankfully by hit-off time, it had almost disappeared, and a fine warm day followed, only tempered by the arrival of Laidley’s usual mid-morning breeze.

The field was almost the same as the last game, a disappointing 48 (36 Men and 12 Ladies), and that, after only 2 cancelled from the timesheet. We can only hope that at the next game in October, more members are able to enjoy such a fine maintained Course and also the hospitality of the Club. There was one new player in that number.

The Course had dried out considerably but there was plenty of run and, after taking a preferred lie where necessary, the grass cover ensured the possibility of a good shot. The Greens continue to have a problem with the condition of the grass, but they still allowed a clean roll to the hole.

The welcoming tea and coffee set players up for a great start and the menu provided by the Chef satisfied all appetites.

The ladies were the best scorers with the 40 points and Shirley Morgan’s back nine ensured she ended up winning the countback from Janine Hauser. The men’s winners were Garry Hulett and Glenn Kermond with 39 and 36 points. Cedric Payne was a little off his game after celebrating his 89th birthday last Saturday.

1. When we arrived, we couldn’t see those trees.

2. It’s good to relax after booking in and checking that the Timesheet hasn’t changed.

3. New player, Kim Nankervis exchanges some of his perceptions of a game with our Vets with the other recent arrival, John Spithill.

The next game is at Rosewood on Monday 21st August. It is an 8.30am Shotgun start. It is Day 1 of the Championships. Players may choose to play either a Stroke or a Stableford Round. Day 2 is on Monday 28th August and once again players may choose a Stroke or a Stableford Round. The Timesheet is now at Rosewood.
