DESCRIPTION:Bringing the game back almost 2 months from late May last year made a significant difference to the playing conditions this year. For a start\, the minimum and maximum temperatures were 10 degrees higher\, there was no fog covering the Course at the start of play and by day's end\, players were happy to seek the shade while waiting to play a shot. Despite the positive feedback on last year's game by the 77 who played\, there was some concern that a second game would not have the same response. In fact\, the field this year increased to 83(69 Men and 14 Ladies)\, many of whom were new members\, and this was possible by the efforts of the Club Pro to find extra buggies again to meet our requirements. There was an expectation that the Course would be lush after the rainy season but we were advised that Warwick had not received very much rain at all. Despite this\, watering of the crucial areas of the Fairways gave a good kikuyu covering which needed care that a clean shot was made to avoid straying shots. The Greens were very well covered and again slower than we usually experience. The Clubhouse veranda was a very pleasant area to chat and have a snack before the game and the chef came in on his day off to provide a very welcome roast lunch. The hospitality we received was second to none and the Pro even made sure he discounted the price of clothing and footwear to clear some of his stock. Scoring was never easy today as the results indicate\, but the two who managed 36 points\, Rod Turnbull and Vic Gibbons\, won the day. Just as well Vic didn't turn up last week as there would have been a very small field. Bernie Bugden was hoping for a ball in the Rundown but her 29 won the Ladies trophy. With everyone arriving on time\, and the information on the Course given\, players were able to be dispatched 10 minutes early. Photos. 1. Of this group\, Bernie had the most reason to smile at the end of the day. 2. Terry sacrificed playing with his usual group to play with local invitees\, Cec and Gail Watts. 3. Are they dejected or just tired from scaling the second Tee? 4. Maurie is consoled by Bob after he was devastated by his putting lapse when he took 4 strokes on one hole. 5. All new this year but enjoying one of the trips away on our busy programme. The next game is an 8.30am Shotgun start at Rosewood on the 23rd April.
